Meeting Minutes of October 10, 2019

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Rick Trudell called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Wardens Report: All were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Grand Knight Rick Trudell

Roll Call: Deputy Grand Knight, Advocate, 2nd & 3rd Year Trustees were absent

Attendance: Present: 31, and District Deputy. Total Membership: 340

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the September 12, 2019 meeting were approved.

Upon the September 12, 2019, minutes being approved the Recorder stood, was recognized and reported to the Council the minutes of the July and August Council minutes failed to capture the Knight and Family of the Month. The Recorder reported:

  For July the Knight of the Month was Mike Bergkamp, and the Family of the Month was Michael and Janice McCray; and

  For August the Knight of the Month was John Vehlewald and the Family of the Month was Dave and Joyce Boone...

The Recorder asked the Council to amend the minutes of the July and August meetings to reflect and capture the Knight and Family of the Months for July and August. On motion duly made and seconded the Council amended the minutes of the July and August meetings to capture and record the Knight and Family of the Month as set out above.

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight Rich Trudell reported:

1.Gala clean-up is Sunday morning, November 3, 2019. The Knights have been asked to volunteer to clean up and help from 7:30 to 8:45 A.M. A sign-up sheet for those interested will be passed around;

2.Toostie Roll Drive at HyVee at 95th and Antioch is this weekend. Volunteers are still needed for the event. A sign-up sheet will be passed around reflecting the times available;

3.The Religious Education Raffle tickets quota assigned to the Council were all sold;

4.A volunteer(s) after this Sunday’s 9:00 A.M. Mass is needed to help with the collections for Catholic Charities;

5.He was passing around a card from St. Xavier School in Leavenworth, Kansas thanking the Knights for the coats the Council gave to them. In all the Council purchased and gave away 144 coats this year through the Program;

6.The annual Mass for Deceased Knights will be held November 12, 2019, at the 6:00 P.M Mass on Tuesday possibly followed by dinner at Tequila Harry’s. All Knights and their families are invited. Included in those fallen Knights being recognized will be Father Albert, the Pastor of Holy Spirit Church when the Knight Council was formed; and

7.The Officers’ meeting will be moved to October 24, 2019, instead of October 31, which is Halloween night.

Deputy Grand Knight Justin Lillich was absent. There was no reported:

Financial Reports

Treasurer

Tom Gaume reported:

Checking:                $12,990.42

Less earmarks for Chapel/Coats for Kids $4,942.90

Remainder          $8,047.52

Financial Secretary

The Grand Knight called on the Financial Secretary to give his report. The Financial          Secretary, Greg Miller was absent and the Treasurer Tom Gaume read the current bills       to the Council for payment. They were:

Refreshments ($28.06) & Food ($70.66)            $ 98.72

Bill for Prizes for Council’s Golf Outing (Golf Balls)         $ 57.75

On motion duly made and seconded, it was approved to pay the above bills by the Council.

Lastly, it was reported to the Council the Officers at the Officer’s Meeting held September 26, 2019, approved the payments of $76.12 for the Seminarian Christmas Card Sale Fundraiser and a $175.56 for a Council name plague.

LECTOR’S ADDRESS

The Grand Knight called on the Lecturer to address the Counsel with his Program. Greg Brown, the Lector, gave his prepared remarks on the “Our Father” to the Council.

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad Eickholt, the Membership Director, announced   to date the Council has five (5) new members for the year. Three members were inducted into the Council at last month’s First Degree ceremony. One (1) was inducted by viewing the DVD First Degree ceremony, and one (1) was previously inducted. Chad reported he has one application and the next Membership Blitz will be conducted in December.

   FAMILY DIRECTOR:

  The Grand Knight called on the Family Director to give his report. John Weber, the Family Director, informed the Council there were 55 individuals who showed for the September 29, Communion Breakfast after the 9:00 Mass, 28 individuals who participated in the Council’s September 30, Golf Outing, and 35 individuals who attended the September 25 Royal Baseball Game event.

  John reminded the Council of the emphasis the new Faith in Action Program adopted by Supreme places on evangelizing of the family. He mentioned several Programs directed towards family spiritualism, including the Consecration of the Holy Family which is mandatory for the Council to obtain the Columbian Award. He said he will talk to Father concerning instituting the Consecration of the Holy Family Program into the Parish soon.

LIFE DIRECTOR:

  The Grand Knight called upon the Life Director, Dave Boone, to give his report. Dave Boone reported:

1.There was a good turn-out by the Knights and Parish for the Churches’ participation in the 40 Days for Life Program;

2.Several Parishioners and Knights showed up for the Life Chain on October 6, and

3.There will be a Petition Drive this coming Sunday, October 12, and 13 after every Mass seeking to change the Kansas Constitution to prohibit abortion recently ruled as a right by the Kansas Supreme Court.

Unfinished Business

  Play Along Football – Ken O’Bryan should have the results to us shortly.

  The annual Council Royal’s Game Outing cost the Council $310.25 this year. The total cost for the event was $2,010.25 and the revenue it generated was $1,700. This was a net loss to the Council of $310.25.

NEW BUSINESS

  With Unfinished Business being concluded the Grand Knight asked whether anyone had any new business to bring up with the Council.

  The Grand Knight reported Greg Leikam, the Churches’ Youth Director, and fellow Knight requested the Council for a contribution to defray the cost of taking participating youths to the Right to Life March held annually in Washington D.C. in protest to the Roe decision making abortion legal in the United States.

  On motion duly made and seconded the Council authorized $300 be paid from the Treasury as a contribution to the Churches’ Youth Program to defray the cost of expenses in taking youths to the annual Right to Life March in Washington D C.

FOURTH DEGREE REPORT:

Dan Hageman, the Worthy Navigator was absent. John Weber gave the 4th Degree report reminding the Council of the Chalice Dinner this Saturday, October 12, after the 4:00 Mass. He invited all Fourth Degree Knights to attend the Mass and Dinner.

KNIGHT OF MONTH AND FAMILY OF MONTH

The Grand Knight announced:

The Knight of the Month was Robert (Bob) Long, and

The Family of the Month was Art and Leslie Milnes.

DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMENTS:

  The Grand Knight extended an invitation for the District Deputy, Steve Glary, to address the Council.

  The District Deputy informed the Council there would be Major Degree ceremonies held October 24 at Holy Trinity and November 24 at Holy Cross. Also, he said there will be a Fourth Degree Ceremony held April 18, 2020, at Christ the King Church in Topeka, Kansas.

  Before closing the meeting the Grand Knight asked whether any Brother Knight wished to request prayers for the sick and distressed. Names for which prayers were requested were:

·Tom McChesney’s Mother in Law Martha Presecan; and

·Brother Knight, Joe Pollock who is on oxygen.

Jerry Gerstberger reported 8 people present for Adoration on Wednesday night.
