Meeting Minutes of August 8, 2019

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Rick Trudell called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Wardens Report: All were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Grand Knight Rick Trudell

Roll Call: Advocate, 1st Year Trustee and 2nd Year Trustee were absent

Attendance: Present: 32, and District Deputy. Total Membership: 340

 

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the July 11, 2019 meeting were approved.

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight Rick Trudell reported:

 

1.The Play along Football raffle ticket program being headed by Ken O’Bryan is on-going. He said Ken O’Bryan needed help after each Mass. The Grand Knight sent around a sign-up sheet to enlist anyone who could help;

2.He said the Royal Baseball Game event being headed by Greg Davis would be conducted on September 13, 2019. The cost of tickets would be $50 each. The event included a ticket and a bus ride to the stadium on an air conditioned bus with a restroom. A sign-up sheet was being passed around for those interested. Payments could be made to Tom Guame tonight. Otherwise pay Greg Davis.;

3.Religious Education Raffle Tickets were being sold tonight at a cost of $100 each. The ticket price could be split up between as many as four participants. The Council had 10 tickets available and he instructed those interested to see Justin Lillich; and

4.He passed around thank you cards received from St. Thomas Aquinas High and the Wyandotte Pregnancy Center.

 

Deputy Grand Knight Report

Deputy Grand Knight Justin Lillich reported:

The Fun Fair would be conducted September 6, 2019, from 5-9 P.M. The Knights were being asked to help again this year by participating in set-up from 1-3 P.M., tear-down from 7-9 P.M. and run the “walking tacos” table and beer/pop table during the event.

Financial Reports

Treasurer

Tom Gaume reported:

Checking:             $16,547.97

Less earmarks for Chapel/Coats for Kids/Baby Bottles $9,075.26

Remainder        $7,472.71

 

Financial Secretary

The Grand Knight called on the Financial Secretary to give his report. The Financial Secretary, Greg Miller was absent and the Treasurer Tom Gaume read the current bills to the Council for payment. They were:

 

A check to Tom McChesney for refreshments      $56.79

Kincaid (Bus for Royal outing)     $798.25

Kansas for Life (Baby Bottles)         $2,077.89

Wyandotte Pregnancy Center (Baby Bottles)     $2,077.89

Chris Horvat (Food for tonight’s event)     $96.69

 

On motion duly made and seconded, it was approved to pay the above bills by the Council.

 

Lector’s Address

The Grand Knight called on the Lecturer to address the Counsel with his Program. Greg Brown, the Lecturer, gave his

prepared remarks on the “Our Father” to the Council.

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad Eickholt, the Membership Director, announced there would be a recruitment drive the weekend of September 7-8. He sent around a sign-up sheet for those who could help with the recruitment drive. He announced he had applications from two new prospects. He announced our membership goal for the coming year was 23.

 

   PROGRAM DIRECTOR:

   

  The Grand Knight called on the Program Director to give his report. Rich Triola, the Program Director, reported he ordered 25 Council t-shirts last month. He emphasized the importance of every Council member to wear the brand and announced he was taking additional orders this evening at the meeting

 

   FAITH DIRECTOR:  

 

  The Grand Knight called on the Faith Director to give his report. Everett Fritz, the Faith Director, read the schedule of events constituting the Faith Program for the year to the Council. Included in the events was the retreat “Men Under Construction” which would meet the Spiritual Reflection requirement for the Columbian Award. He reported all the events were already incorporated into the scheduled calendar events for the year

 

   FAMILY DIRECTOR:

 

  The Grand Knight called on the Family Director to give his report. John Weber, the Family Director, reported he send a sympathy card to Sally Davis regarding the loss of her mother and the wife of Ed Connolly for her loss from the Knights. Also, he reported there are five Sundays in September. As such there will be Communion Sunday on September 29, 2019, with the Knights asked to participate in 9:00 A.M. Mass together followed by brunch in the Margaret and Mary Room.

 

WEB MASTER:

 

The Grand Knight called on the Web Master, Bob Long, to give his report. Bob reported everything was up to date on the Knights’ web page.

 

LIFE DIRECTOR:

 

  Dave Boone, the Life Director, was not present. There was no report from the Life Director.

 

Unfinished Business

  The Grand Knight asked whether anyone had any unfinished business to bring up. Bud Maskill stood and was recognized.

 

  Bud updated the Council on the Coats for Kids Program. He reported he was working on getting orders from the various Schools he contacts. However, he informed the Council when he attempted to inquire about purchasing coats through Supreme he encountered issues. He reported he was told the Financial Secretary needed to interface with Supreme.

NEW BUSINESS

  With Unfinished Business being concluded the Grand Knight asked whether anyone had any new business to bring up with the Council. Al Gracik stood and was recognized.

 

  Al reported Greg Davis had put in place the 7th Annual Council Golf Outing set for September 30, 2019. He said the location for the event would be at Heritage Park again. He said the event would start at 8:30 A.M. and after the event those interested would meet at Tequilla Harry’s for lunch. He said the cost for the event would be $33 which included green fees, a golf cart and two drinks. Al emphasized the Council needed 32 players and he was passing around a sign-up sheet for those interested.

 

  Following Al Gracik, Bernie Noonan stood and was recognized. Bernie informed the Council Fr. Nick Blaha, a Council Knight, had been reassigned as Pastor of Blessed Sacrament, Christ the King Church, and Our Lady/St. Rose Churches. Bernie informed the Council Fr. Blaha resides at the rectory of Blessed Sacrament and the rectory there is in need of repair. Fr. Blaha had asked whether our Council would make a donation to rehab the Blessed Sacrament rectory with either labor, donation, or both. On motion duly made and seconded, the Council agreed to make a donation of $200

   

FOURTH DEGREE REPORT:

 

  The Grand Knight called upon Dan Hageman to give the 4th Degree report.

 

  Dan reported 12 Holy Spirit Assembly Knights attended the Bishop Ward Assembly picnic held at the Knights’ Hall in Shawnee, Kansas. He informed the Council the next Holy Spirit Assembly meeting would be held September 16 at 7:00 P.M. preceded by dinner starting at 6:00 P.M with Social Hour.

 

   DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMENTS:

 

  The Grand Knight extended an invitation for the District Deputy, Steve Glary, to address the Council.

 

  The District Deputy encouraged the Council to focus on recruitment and emphasized the Insurance Products offered by Supreme including Whole Life, Term Insurance, Annuities, and Long Term Care.

 

INSURANCE AGENT REPORT

  

The Field Agent was not present at the meeting. The Grand Knight informed the Council our new Field Agent was Luke Henry. His e-mail address is luke.henry@kofc.org. Prayers Requested

 

  Before closing the meeting the Grand Knight asked whether any Brother Knight wished to request prayers for the sick and distressed. No one reported any names except Anna Mabry, Greg Davis’ Mother-in-Law and Sally’s mother.

There were 14 members present for Adoration on Wednesday night.
