Meeting Minutes of May 9, 2019

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Rick Trudell, called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

Wardens Report: All were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by the Grand Knight

Roll Call: Deputy Grand Knight, Advocate, and Trustee 3rd Year were absent.

Attendance: Present: 35. Total Membership: 338

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the April 11, 2019 meeting were approved.

Grand Knight’s Report

Rick Trudell reported that May 18 is the Diaconate Ordination at Holy Spirit. K of C has been asked to assist. So far we have Val, Justin, Everett, Rick. Need at least 4 more. Sign-up sheet is being passed. Start at 8:45 until 10:30. Also, need 4 to help after Ordination from 11:30 to 12:15. Six more signed up for the 2 time slots.

Parish Picnic is Sunday, June 9. Once again, we are being asked to cook the hot dogs and hamburgers. Need volunteers – see sign-up sheet. Six cooks signed up.

Substitutes are needed for the Friday Knights Adoration Hour. Two knights volunteered.

Deputy Grand Knight Report

Rich Triola was absent so Justin Lillich reported that the state convention was interesting because a guest speaker was an abortion survivor. He enjoyed seeing the wider world of K of C. The next convention will be in Wichita.

Financial Reports

Treasurer

Tom Gaume reported:

Less earmarks for chapel and Coats for Kids          $4,942.90

Remainder        $20,849.14

Lenten Dinners, our six charities will each receive $1278.00 (Net revenue was $7667.21 divided by 6 = $1277.87) Little Brothers of the Lamb and Little Sisters of the Lamb will split one share. The council voted and approved the motion.

Lector’s Address

Greg Brown thanked Mike McCray for his faithful service as Lecturer over the last few years. Greg’s address was an overview of the Lord’s Prayer. He plans to do a deep dive into this great prayer given to us by our Lord. St Thomas Aquinas says the Lord’s Prayer contains all that we ought to desire, and that is God. St Therese of Lisieux says praying the Our Father very slowly refreshes her spiritual dryness. Greg looks forward to going deeper into this wonderful prayer over the next few months.

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

Chad Eickholt reported we have 2 new transfer members, Rob Stickney and John Ford. John is from California, is married with a baby on the way. Rob is from Medicine Lodge, KS, is married and has grown children living in the area. Also, we have a new member, Daniel Skinner, from Wichita and is married. Welcome to you!

We have 2 new candidates from the May membership drive. Chad might use the DVD to do the 1st degree. Otherwise he recommends moving the next 1st Degree meeting from June to July. This was discussed and approved.

Church Director

Everett Fritz, was not present.

Pro-Life Director

Dave Boone said we have Baby Bottle Sunday this Saturday and Sunday May 11 and 12. He obtained volunteers for each Mass. This is our second biggest fund raiser next to Life Saver Sunday in January. The proceeds help support Wyandotte Pregnancy Center. Additionally, Fr. Alessandro will be at Planned Parenthood Friday morning to protest recent ill treatment of a pro-life demonstrator.

Vocations Director

Howard Hunter reported that the vocation poster contest awards will be given out this Monday the 14th.

Community Director

Tony O’Brien, no report.

Council Director

John Weber said June 15th is the annual awards and Hall of Fame dinner, in the Martha and Mary room following the 4:00 Saturday Mass. A 5:00 social will be followed by dinner of Fireside BBQ. Cost will be $10 to $15.

A Major Degree (2nd and 3rd degree) will be held at St. Agnes on Mission Rd. on Sunday, May 19. Any first degree knights are encouraged to attend.

Joseph and Chloe Langr are expecting a baby very soon. John is checking to see if it is time to send a birth card yet.

Youth Director

Don Watson not present.

Unfinished Business

Nominations for Officers positions for Fraternal Year 2019-2020 as follows: GK – Rick Triola (nomination withdrawn); DGK – Justin Lillich; Chancellor – Bud Maskill; Recorder – Everett Fritz; Treasurer – Tom Gaume; Advocate – Rod Hoffman; Warden – Tony Schroeder; Inside Guard Mike Burkcamp; Outside Guard – Tom Swortwood; Trustee 1st Year – Rick Trudell; Trustee 2nd Year – Tom McChesney; Trustee 3rd Year – Greg Davis.

Rick Trudell asked John Weber to conduct the vote. All were voted in except Rich Triola who withdrew his nomination. We are still in need of a volunteer for the position of Grand Knight. Please prayerfully consider this position.

Bud Maskill commended the Lenten dinner chairmen for a job well done. He said the new plan of management worked very well.

NEW BUSINESS

Thanks to Chris Horvat for always preparing dinner. This month’s theme was baseball and hotdogs. Also thanks to Tom McChesney for keeping us from thirst with our favorite beverages each month.

The next Officer’s meeting is May 23th. The next council meeting is June 13th.

Greg Miller reported that this year’s 8th Grade Altar Servers will not have a luncheon due to scheduling conflicts. He would like to give them each a Script gift card. A $15.00 gift card for each was discussed and approved.

Family of the Month: Dick and Joan Korek, the clown family at the Lenten dinners.

Fourth Degree Report

John Weber reported that the 4th Degree Exemplification was April 27 at Ascension. Four new members joined the Patriotic degree, Joe Reyes, Steven Maupin, John Vehlewald, and Greg Brown. Congrats guys.

Next 4th Degree meeting is Monday May 20th, 6:00 social, 6:30 pot luck dinner, 7:00 meeting.

Sandy Fritz, Everett’s wife, had knee replacement surgery and is doing well.

Bud Maskill asked for prayers for his good friend Pat Sullivan who is dying of cancer. He is a former priest, missionary to Korea, and is now married.

Tom McChesney’s coworker Jim Mytinger is in his mid-50’s with a brain tumor.

Richard Rollings, grandson of Dick and Joan Korek, has myotonic dystrophy. He comes to the Lenten dinners with them to do the balloons and totally enjoys the experience. He lives for it.
