GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

Please sign up to help with the ladies luncheon on May 5. A volunteer sheet is making the rounds.

St. Thomas Aquinas Walk for Life – request for $300.00 as a sponsor for 2018. We have sponsored at this level for the past few years. The request was lost; they needed an answer before our regular meeting, so the officers assumed that we would support as a council. A motion was made, seconded, and approved.

While we’re spending money, we need approval to pay our per capita and Pennies from Heaven assessment at the state convention next month. We won’t know exactly the number until just before the convention. We don’t have a lot of choice on this, but we do need council approval. Last year the Pennies amount was $1314 and the per capita was $1614. The Pennies from Heaven contribution box only covers a small portion of what is due. A motion was made to provide $3.65 per year times the number of members, seconded and approved.

Elections for officers will be next month. The candidates that we currently have for each position have been distributed. If anyone is interested in any of these positions, please see any current officer for inclusion on the ballot. In addition, we will call for nominations prior to the election in May. The current candidates are:

LECTURER’S REPORT

Michael McCray spoke about the atheist’s claim that there can be no God because why would a loving God allow us to suffer so? Suffering exists because of mankind’s rejection of God’s authority , original sin. But suffering allows us to learn through adversity. Also, our ego blinds us to His great power, love, and mercy. Maybe we should ask, why is God so merciful letting us live on a beautiful planet and why would he send his Son, Himself in essence, to suffer and die on our behalf?

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

Chad Eickholt reported that we have 373 members with 4 new members this year.

Chad will hold a membership drive the weekend of May 5 & 6. This is the State Convention weekend. Please help Chad out after each Mass. He found one man in the RCIA program interested. He encouraged us to work towards recruitment because new members might be tomorrow’s leadership. There is a social this Saturday that he will attend.

The next major degree (2nd and 3rd) is Sunday May 20 at St. Agnes.

Our next degree is June 14th.

There is a first degree June 8th.

Church Director

Rich Triola reported that the new rosary stand is currently in the church office. We discussed whether to put KoC rosaries on it. Greg Miller mentioned that they are blessed and that they com in a kit for new members. Other ideas were to build a pedestal for it, display rosary guides, free will donation box, and an informational plaque. Greg Miller will talk to Fr. Ric about where to display the rosary stand.

Vocations Director

Howard Hunter reported on the completed vocation posted contest.

Prolife

Dave Boone said Holy Spirit participated in this spring’s 40 Days for Life in the morning of Saturday March 24 for a half day. He mentioned the knight’s names who braved the cold weather.

The next event is the Mother’s Day/Father’s Day baby bottle distribution. Help will be needed.

Dave said our total contribution to pro-life causes this last year were $11,398.87. Wow!

Community Director

The next major degree (2nd and 3rd) is Sunday May 20 at St. Agnes.

He emailed all of our first degree knights to encourage them to get their 2nd and 3rd degrees. He got a few responses and thanks for the reminder.

Saturday June 16th is our Council Award Dinner and Hall of Fame dinner. It will commence after the 4:00 PM Mass in the M&M room.

Youth Director

Historian and Web Master

Bob Long had no report.

Unfinished Business

Tom Swortwood wants to provide a telescope for the school. Tom will talk to the principal of the school, Michelle Watson to see if she needs it.

NEW BUSINESS

Tom McChesney said Fr. Ric is promoting the program “That Man is You.” It targets mostly younger married men but has wide based appeal. It begins September 13 and will meet every Thursday at 6:00 AM. Breakfast will be served from 6:00 to 6:30. Free will donations will be collected for the breakfasts. Fr. Ric would like the knights to provide these breakfasts. We discussed the idea but there was much push back in committing to providing weekly breakfasts. Nativity has TMIY and has always had its members take turn in bringing breakfast, usually a little more than a continental breakfast. The discussion expressed some interest in helping out, maybe getting things jump started. More information will be obtained from Fr. Ric.

Marian Conference IV if Greater KC, diocese of KC/St. Joseph, is asking for all KoC councils to donate $100.00.
