Meeting Minutes of November 9, 2017

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Tom McChesney, called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

Wardens Report: Warden reported that all were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by the Grand Knight

Roll Call: Outside guard and Trustee 2nd year were absent.

Attendance: Present: 41. Total Membership: 373

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the October 12, 2017, meeting were approved.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

There is a donation jar to help cover dinner expenses – don’t forget to pitch in. Thank you, Chris, for getting the food for us.

Adopt a family – we passed the hat to collect an additional $368 for the family’s Christmas.

Breakfast with Santa, December 10, we need help for the 9:00 and 10:30 Masses. The 7:30 usually has plenty of help.

Shawnee Community Services is asking for help with their food pantry. Let’s consider ways to help and discuss next month.

Thank you letters were received from iCare for our support and from St. Paul’s School for Coats for Kids. The notes were passed around.

LECTURER’S REPORT

Michael McCray asked us to pray the Rosary daily for world peace. Pray if you want world peace. Is Satan active in our world? Mary tells us that he is. Padre Pio told us that praying the Rosary is our greatest weapon. The Church offers us exorcism to combat Satan as well.

 

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

Chad Eickholt we have 373 members with one new member. The next degree meeting is Dec. 14. There will be no Guys Night Out dinner so we can accommodate the degree meeting.

Church Director

Rich Triola said the next Communion Mass will be Dec 31. He mentioned we should sit together in reserved pews. We are also working on using Knights for servers, ushers, and lectors. Wear your Knights gear. Another idea is for Knights to attend Tuesday night 6:00 Mass throughout Advent and Lent and sit together.

Vocations Director

Howard Hunter had no updates to offer.

Prolife

Dave Boone mentioned that next January will have more pro-life activities. 40 Days for Life has wrapped up for this year.

Community Director

Tony O’Brien told us that the Harmony Chorus will be Dec 2 at Unity Village. He even serenaded us with a sample of Barber Shop style singing.

Council Director

John Weber was absent.

Family Director

 

Dave Boone was present but had no new report.

 

Youth Director

 

Free Throw contest is the first week of January so Don Watson will ask for volunteers to sign up at the December meeting.

 

Historian and Web Master

 

Bob Long was absent. Please get any Gala photos to Bob.

Unfinished Business

Coats for Kids - Bud Maskill reported that $976 has been raised by “sandwich board” solicitation after the Sunday Masses. An additional $32 was added at the meeting. An ad is running in the bulletin to raise funds via the mail.

Play-Along Football update by Ken O’Bryan. 747 tickets were sold this year compared to 782 last year. We grossed $16,400, netted $11,455, with the Knight’s share being $5,727.50. The other parishes sold the following number of tickets, Nativity – 1394, Holy Trinity – 1095, St. Michael’s – about 500, Ascension – about 300. Bud suggested another prize other than Chiefs season tickets per a customer’s request.

Tootsie Roll Weekend – Phil Fowler said we collected $3,850.31, about $319.31 more than last year. 20% goes to State for Special Olympics. 40% goes to Friends of Johnson County where people with special needs assemble medical kits, etc. Another 40% goes to Lake Mary group homes for intellectually handicapped people.

Christmas Card Sales – Greg Miller said 54 boxes of Christmas cards were sold plus other items out of the catalog. One more weekend of sales and then card delivery is the weekend of Nov 18.

NEW BUSINESS

John Waters suggested a chili cook off at the January meeting. The council approved the motion.

Greg Miller mentioned that the Christmas lights can be put up Dec 8. He said Fr Ric wants to check out the quality of the Nativity scene and figures before installation. If approved he would like it put up Dec 22 or 23.

Fourth Degree Report

John Weber was absent but another reported that the November meeting is cancelled. The next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 4. The Christmas potluck will start at 6:00 with a Social, followed by Dinner at 6:30. The Assembly meeting will start at 7:30. The next exemplification is in Topeka on Nov 18th.

Joe Cummings was not present due to illness.
