Meeting Minutes of October 12, 2017

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Tom McChesney, called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

Wardens Report: Warden reported that all were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by the Grand Knight

Roll Call: Recorder and Advocate were absent.

Attendance: Present: 42. Total Membership: 372

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the September 14, 2017 meeting were approved with two amendments as follows: 1) Change Frank Hilton to read Harry Hilton and 2) Change Assembly number 3750 to read 3752.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

There is a donation jar to help cover dinner expenses – don’t forget to pitch in. Thank you, Chris and Al, for getting the food for us.

There are two Major Degrees coming up. Holy Trinity on October 24 and St. Michael’s on October 29. Please encourage our 1 st Degree knights to attend.

Gala clean up on Nov. 5. We need volunteers starting at 8 a.m. Sign up link will be sent out.

Donut Sunday is this coming Sunday. Knights are asked to volunteer to set out the donuts and collect and put in the safe all financial donations.

The Budget for 2017-18 was presented and approved by the Council.

A request via Doug Leikam (Youth Director) to help fund Holy Spirit teens to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. in January 2018 was presented. A request for funding up to $375.00 was made and approved.

Reminder that December 10, is Breakfast with Santa. Will need many volunteers to make it a successful morning.

Received a thank you note from the Principal at St. Pat’s expressing the appreciation for the donation of Coats for Kids to their school.

 

 

District Deputy

District Deputy, Jeff Bitter, presented the Columbus Award and Founders Plaque to former Grand Knight Greg Davis on behalf of the Council.

Jeff reminded the Council of the upcoming Tootsie Roll drive and the two upcoming Major degrees.

He also thanked the Council for all the good work we do.

LECTURER’S REPORT

Michael McCray related the story of Jonah and the city of Nineveh and how Jonah went through the city telling the people that the city would be destroyed in 40 days if they did not repent. Michael related the story to our country today and that we need to pray to Our Father in Heaven and our Blessed Mother to free our country from sin and devastation.

 

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

Chad Eickholt reported that we have one new member since our last meeting. His name is Jason Osterhaus and he received his 1 st degree via the DVD video. Chad reports that we have 372 members and that we had one deduction recently so that put us at zero new membership for the year.

Church Director

Rich Triola asked Trinidad to give us an update on the Rosary Stand. Trinidad showed us the rosary stand he is working on but due to other current commitments that have had to take priority he has not been able to complete the rosary stand to date.

Vocations Director

Howard Hunter informed us of that the Mass for Deceased Knights is Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. Please plan to attend.

Prolife

Dave Boone mentioned that there were 19 Knights that participated in the 40 days for Life rally. Also, that we had a good turnout the next day for the Life Chain Pro- Life movement.

Council Director

John Weber talked about the upcoming Communion Mass and Breakfast that will take place on Sunday, Oct. 29. We will sit as a group at the 9:00 Mass and then have breakfast in the Martha/ Mary room. This is the first time to have breakfast in the M/M room. Carol Clune will prepare the breakfast for us. Please see John to make a reservation for you and your family. Cost is $8.00.

Historian and Web Master

 

Bob Long is our Web Master. Our web site is up and running. Go to www.kofc11661.com to see the web site. Bob asks that you send him any photos and information that would be appropriate for putting on the web site.

 

Unfinished Business

Coats for Kids - Bud Maskill received 6 cases of Coats for Kids. He has distributed the coats to five needy schools and still has 12 coats left. He is looking to see if any of our adopted families may need the coats. Either way, Bud will find a home for the remaining coats. We as a council will fundraise to cover the costs of the coats.

Tootsie Roll Weekend – Phil Fowler reminded us that this weekend is our weekend for the Tootsie Roll drive. He reviewed the time slots and individuals who will be volunteering this weekend. In addition, he reminded us that we need to help at each of the Masses to collect donations.

Christmas Card Sales – Greg Miller informed us that Christmas Card sales will start the weekend of Oct. 21-22 for five weekends. There is a sign-up sheet for volunteering. Please sign-up.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Tom Maillard announced that St. Philippine Duchesne Assembly #2260 will have their annual dinner and dance on January 27, 2018, at St. Paul’s. Tickets are $25.00 per person.

Phil Folwer is now an Honorary Member. Congratulation Phil!

Karl Ley showed us a video about the life of Abbot Barnabas who turns 80 years old on Oct. 16. Abbot Barnabas was once assigned to Holy Spirit. A Legacy Fund is being started in his honor.

 

Fourth Degree Report

John Weber reported that the next 4 th Degree social and meeting will be Oct. 16. At the last social 40 members and spouses attended. There were 30 Knights that attended the meeting. There is a 4 th Degree Exemplification in Topeka on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Insurance Agent Report

Joe Cummings informed us that Knights insurance offers many different types of policies. He has filed 5 death claims for our council since January. See Joe for your insurance needs.
