Meeting Minutes of September 14, 2017

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Tom McChesney, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Wardens Report: Warden reported that all were in possession of a valid membership card.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by the Grand Knight

Roll Call: Advocate and Trustee 2nd Year were absent.

Attendance: Present: 36. Total Membership: 375

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the August 10, 2017, meeting were approved.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT

There is a donation jar to help cover dinner expenses – don’t forget to pitch in.

Religious Education Fund tickets are available. We have 10 tickets, increased prizes this year. Tickets are $100.00 each. 3 tickets were left. 1split ticket was sold to various individuals. The 2 remaining tickets were proposed to be bought by our council and it was approved to do so.

Tootsie roll weekend coming up on October 13-15. Need to have Hy-Vee blanketed as Holy Cross will not be there this year. Sign-up sheet going around.

Parish Directory ad, $667.00 to run again this year. Motion to purchase again approved.

Christmas lights, Fr Ric wants them this year. Our council owns the lights and they are stored by the business that installs them. It will cost approximately $1550.00 to install and maintain them. The church will pay for the installation. The motion to allow the church to use them was approved.

Manger scene, Fr. Ric wants a new set for this year. He also wants it installed on Christmas Eve and not sooner. Frank Hilton has lighted figures that he is willing to donate.

Villa St. Francis Festival is on Saturday September 16, 11:00 to 2:00 and costs $5.00.

Ally Crank thanks us for our support of her mission.

Archdiocese Deaf ministry is asking for donations. There was no vote taken.

Bags of Fun - $150 ticket. There was no vote taken.

LECTURER’S REPORT

Michael McCray returned to give us a great talk on Marion Visions. A Rowandan visionary says that Mary is asking us to pray for our leaders, for an end to abortion, and for priests and religious.

 

DIRECTOR’S REPORTS

Membership

Chad Eickholt reported that out of our 26 man quota only 1 new member has signed up. Grand Knight Tom McChesney hopes to use the 1st Degree DVD for this new candidate. He will notify the council members if he uses it. James Easterday is now a Litetime Honorary member. Also, Phil Folwer is an Honorary member.

Church Director

Rich Triola reported that Fr.Ric is promoting TMIY, That Man is You. This is a program primarily for young men with families. Check the bulletin for details.

The next Welcome Luncheon is October 14.

Needy Families, 3 families need sponsors. A motion to sponsor 1 family was approved for $300.00. We will pass-the-hat at the next meeting. It was also suggested that we offer Coats for Kids to these families.

Pictures of officers were requested for the directory.

Donut Sunday, our next Sunday is Feb. 25th.

A singer in the choir needs a ride to practices. Tony offered to do it.

Catholic Leadership Institute is coming to Holy Spirit. Fr. Ric hopes to promote inter-group cooperation through programs such as this.

Boy Scouts is transitioning to Troops of St. George, a father led group.

Gym floor replacement will not be ready for the Gala so tents will be used on the east side.

 

Prolife

Dave Boone mentioned the following upcoming Pro-Life events: 1) Wyandotte Pregnancy Center dinner was successful with about 50 Holy Spirit parishioners attending. 2) Our participation in 40 Days for Life will be Sep. 30, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., at College and Roe. Dave passed around a sign-up sheet. He needs 20 or more volunteers. 3) Life Chain is Oct. 1 at the NE corner of Antioch and 95th St. 1:30 to 2:30.

Council Director

John Weber was not present but he is working on a Chiefs tailgate party and the mentor program.

 

Family Director

Dave Boone volunteered to be Family Director and his first report is that he is working on nominating a family of the month.

 

Historian

Bob Long is the new historian. He had no report but a lot of work is being done.

 

Unfinished Business

Play-along Football, Ken O’Bryan was not present for a final report.

 

Golf outing, Greg Davis reported that it was great fun with 40 golfers attending. Plans are being made for next year!

 

Royals Game, Greg Davis reported that 24 attended which led to a $200.00 shortfall. It had been decided at the officers meeting that attendees would have to make up the difference but it was reconsidered by the council because it is a social event for the council. A motion to cover the shortfall was approved.

 

Fun Fair, Rick Trudell reported that the Knights worked the Walking Taco table and the Beer and Soda table with great success. Mike Keegan donated the beer and pop.

 

Coats for Kids, Bud Maskill reported that he ordered and has received 6 dozen coats. The coats cost $1300.00. He will distribute them among our parish but most will go to Wyandotte and Leavenworth parishes. We had $450.00 left over from last year. Greg Brown will run an ad in the bulletin in late October and November when the weather gets colder.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Adopt a Seminarian, Christmas card sales, Greg Miller asked for volunteers to help.

 

New Theater outing, Bud Maskill suggests that we go to the theater as a council with our wives and significant others. This is a thing Holy Cross does. “Barefoot in the Park” runs Feb 14 to Apr 22.

 

Football proceeds, Bud Maskill suggests that the council vote on how these moneys are spent. The matter was discussed with no decision made.

 

 

Fourth Degree Report

John Weber was not present so Rick Trudell stood in for him. Rick reported that the new Assembly was approved with 71 charter members. Our Assembly number is 3750. The next meeting is Monday Sept 18, 6:00 in the AV room. Congratulation!

Insurance Agent Report

Joe Cummings informed us that Knights insurance offers many different types of policies. He has filed 5 death claims for our council since January. See Joe for your insurance needs.

Greg Davis offers gratitude for his brother Tim’s recent move to the area and prayers for his success.

Adoration

We have had an average of 8 people at adoration. Going for 800 Rosaries being said!

K of C Adoration, 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesdays. Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Fridays 8 to 9 p.m.
