Meeting Minutes of May 11, 2021

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Rick Trudell called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.

Wardens Report: The meeting was held in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church as the regular meeting place was not available because of room limitation because of the affects of the pandemic. Although cards were not presented, the 21 present were facially recognized as Knights in good standing with the Council.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Grand Knight Rick Trudell

Roll Call: Roll call of Officers was suspended by the Grand Knight, but the twenty-one (21) members present were duly recognized..

Attendance: Present: 21 Total Membership: 341

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the April 13, 2021, meeting was approved.

 

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight, Rick Trudell, announced the first order of business was the election of Officers for the fiscal year July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. The Grand Knight read the nomination of Officers from the April meeting. They were as follows:

The Grand Knight called for any additional nomination from the floor. Having asked three times and not receiving any nominations the nominations were closed and the slate of Officers was put to a vote. The slate of Officers passed unanimously.

 

With the election of Officers being complete the Grand Knight reminded the Council of the Parish Picnic taking place May 22 and the Knights being responsible for cooking the meat. He passed around a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help with the task.

 

Finally, the Grand Knight presented to the Council the “Culture of Life Plague” he received from the State Chapter. He reported our Council received this award because it had the highest contribution per member of $42.77 designated for this Program in the fiscal year 2020-2021.

 

 

Deputy Grand Knight & Program Director Report

Thereafter, the Deputy Grand Knight, Rich Triola was asked to give his report. Rich reported the following:

Rich informed the Council the Nominating Committee was still looking for candidates to fill the Treasurer’s position. Anyone having an interest or suggestion was asked to contact him.

Also, he informed the Council there would be a recruitment table set up at the Parish Picnic to be manned by Knight volunteers present.

 

Financial Reports

Financial Secretary Report

Greg Miller, the Financial Secretary was present. Gregg presented the bills of the Council. They were:

1.The Officers at the Officer’s meeting approved $100 payment to the “Summit” a three day High School summer event. The money will be used to purchase rosaries to hand out at the event.

2.At the State Convention held Apr 30 – May 20, 2021 the Council provided these payments:

·Per Capita expense      $1,520.00

·Pennies from Heaven    $ 125.45

3.  Pay the expenses for our representative, Tom Gaume, for his attendance at the State Convention. Expenses totaled $391.80.

 

Upon motion duly made and seconded it was approved to pay the above referenced bills.

 

He informed the Council there was over $6,000 collected in dues; there were 63 members delinquent in paying dues, and there was as many as possibly 20 suspensions to be submitted to Supreme this year.

 

Thereafter, he informed the Council of Deacon Thomas Maddox, a Seminarian from our Parish who is to be ordained this month, need for priest vestments. He informed the Council there was a $1,000 earmarked for this purpose by a Knight donor captured under the Seminarian Fund in our Treasury report. He made a motion the Council donate up to $1,000 to Deacon Tom Maddox to purchase priest vestments. The motion was seconded and passed.

 

Treasurer’s Reports

As for the Treasury report, Tom Gaume was absent and the Grand Knight read the report as follows:

Bank Balance on hand:             $19,439.61

Less: earmarked Coats for Kids’ fund           $2,290.65

Less: earmarked Donations for Seminarians fund   $5,007.00

Remainder           $12,141.96  

 

Lector’s Address

The Lector was absent. However, the Grand Knight read his program on the “Miraculous Construction of the Staircase in the Sisters’ of Loretto, New Mexico Chapel.”

 

 

 

Membership Director

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad Eickholt, the Membership Director, said there was nothing new to report. He is working on some recruitment drives.

 

 

Faith Director

 

  There was no report.

 

Family Director

  There was no report.

 

   

Life Director

 

There was no report.

 

 

Community Director

There was no report.

 

 

Unfinished Business

·  Lenten Dinner – Mr. P’s $317.00; Tequila Harry’s $1200+1290; Net proceeds from last year’s two Lenten Dinners $ 414.48. Grand total $3246.48 / 6 = $541.08. At the last Council meeting it was agreed that we would stay with the six charities that we had last year and they would equally split the proceeds. They are: Project Rachel,

Wyandotte Pregnancy Center, Villa St. Francis, Project Uplift, Little Brothers and Sisters of the Lamb (50 / 50 split) and Honduras Water Project.

 

 

 

      

New Business

  With Unfinished Business being concluded the Grand Knight asked whether anyone had any new business to bring up with the Council.

 

  The Grand Knight reported he had received a sponsorship request from the President of the Parents Association putting on the Garage Sale June 10 through June 12 asking for either a $450 or $350 donation from the Knights to defray expenses for the event.

 

  A motion was made and seconded to donate one of the above sums to the Parents Association for the event. A discussion followed. After the discussion a vote was taken and the motion was denied. However, the Council emphasized in the response to the Parents Association the Council would continue to provide physical labor for the event including set-up, putting up the clothes lines, etc. in the various areas throughout the Holy Spirit complex, helping with clean-up, etc.

Fourth Degree Report

 

The 4th Degree Assembly will be meeting in person in the St. Isidore Room the following Tuesday from tonight, May 18.

 

 

Knight and Family of the Quarter

 

The Grand Knight reported the Knight and Family were as follows:

District Deputy Comments

 

  The District Deputy, Richard Warwick, was not present. There was no report.

 

 

Insurance Agent Report

  

Our Field Agent, John Rodriguez was present at the meeting. Among other things, he informed the Council Supreme would soon be offering mutual fund to the portfolio offered by the Organization. He emphasized the make-up of the mutual fund portfolio would be consistent with our Catholic principles.

Prayers Requested

 

  Before closing the meeting the Grand Knight asked whether any Brother Knight wished to request prayers for the sick and distressed. The name for which prayers were requested was:

 

Mike Slavin will be undergoing surgery June 10;

Trinidad Molina speedy recovery from knee surgery; and

The good health and long life to Jack McGranaghan

 

 

Adoration

 

Jerry Gerstberger was present. He said the Adoration Chapel was now open to anyone.
