Meeting Minutes of April 21, 2022

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday, called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

Warden’s Report: The meeting was held in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Martha and Mary room.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: The Grand Knight led the Council in prayer and in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Officers absent at the meeting were the Recorder, Advocate, Warden, Trustee 3rd Year, Lecturer and Financial Secretary. The Chaplain was also excused. Twenty-six (26) members were present and duly recognized.

Attendance: Present: 26; Total Membership: 316

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the February 10, 2022, meeting was approved.

 

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight, Jim Easterday, gave the following report and announcements:

 

Welcomed members who were attending their first meeting with our Council. He asked each of them to say a few words about themselves and their families.

Received a thank you note from both Uplift and Project Rachel. Each organization thanked the Council for the money donated the night of the Lenten Dinner that they attended.

Thanked everyone for the great job they did working at the Lenten Dinners.

Value Them Both is Aug. 2, 2022. There will be a voter registration drive in June. The remainder of the $350.00 approved by the Council for posters, etc. is now being expensed.

Fun Fair is May 25. We have been asked to cook hot dogs and hamburgers plus pick up the beer.

Parish Picnic is June 4. Again, we have been asked to cook hot dogs and hamburgers.

STA Walk for Life is Sunday, April 24. Need volunteers to help with traffic control at various intersection on College Blvd. during the walk.

May 29 is Corporate Communion Sunday. Will need servers, lectors and Eucharistic Ministers.

 

 

 

Deputy Grand Knight

The Deputy Grand Knight, Don Watson, was present. Don thanked the Council for their prayers, visits and well wishes during his hospital stay. He is now doing rehab and appreciates our continued prayers. Prayer works!

Fr. Andrew was excused.

 

Financial Reports

Financial Secretary Report

Tom Spencer, Treasurer, presented the bills of the Council in the absence of Tom Gaume, Financial Secretary. They were:

Jim Easterday for food $70.89

Bill Ramsey for food for baseball Sporting Knights $37.81

Chad Eickholt for beverages for baseball S.K. $77.92

Tom Spencer for T.Y. Cards, Copies, Computer exp.     $32.02

John Waters for propane for making jumbo soup $32.00

Don Watson for postage – Free Throw Contest invitations $16.32

Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was approved to pay the above referenced bills.

Notes: Donation checks for Wyandotte Pregnancy Center and Advice & Aid are split totals for donations for Jack McGranaghan and John Braklow. Total collected was $2700.00.

 

We received a $200.00 donation for Catholic Charities Refugees. In addition, a $200.00 donation was received for Coats for Kids.

 

The six Lenten Dinners grossed $25,066.00 and a Net Profit of $7,378.02. A motion was made and approved that we provide each of our six Charities with a check for $1,225.00. The Little Sisters of the Lamb and The Little Brother of the Lamb both receive $612.50 since they are considered one charity (so they split $1,225.00). The six charities are Project Rachel, Wyandotte Pregnancy Center, Villa St. Francis, Project Uplift, The Little Sisters of the Lamb along with The Little Brothers of the Lamb and Santa Gratrudis Parish / Honduras Project (Archdiocese of Juticalpa) .

 

Lector’s Address

The Lector, Greg Brown, was absent. Rick Trudell read Greg’s prepared remarks on “Champion with a Heart of Gold: Floyd Patterson.”

 

Membership Director

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad reported that we are only 4 members away from meeting our membership quota of 15 new members. If we could achieve this goal, it would be a big step in possibly attending Star Council recognition for our Council. He and Trinidad will see if maybe we could schedule an Exemplification Ceremony for June 2022.

   

  Bill Ramsey reported that only eight people attended the “Sporting Knights Royals event. The next “Sporting Knights” event will be May 17 (subsequently moved to Wednesday May 18) for the Sporting KC soccer game. Bill will make his famous pulled pork dish.

 

 

 

Faith Director

 

  Everett Fritz was absent..

 

Family Director

 

  John Weber was present. He mentioned that the next Communion Breakfast is scheduled for May 29 and that he would like to see a very large turnout of around 70 people. So bring your entire family to include grandchildren.

 

 

Life Director

 

Dave Boone was present. He thanked all who braved the cold and wind to stand up for life during the Council’s “40 Days for Life” in front of the Women’s Health Center located at College and Roe. Dave also mentioned that Baby Bottles will be handed out on Mother’s Day weekend, May 7 & 8. He will be looking for volunteers to help in distributing the Baby Bottles. The bottles are due back by Father’s Day weekend, June 18 & 19. Last year over $ 6,000.00 was collected.

 

 

YOUTH DIRECTOR

 

Don Watson did not have anything to report this month.

 

Community Director

 

Mike Bergkamp did not have anything to report this month.

 

 

WEBMASTER REPORT

 

Bob Long was absent.

 

EXEMPLIFICATION REPORT

Trinidad Molina will look into possibly having an Exemplification Ceremony in June.

 

 

Unfinished Business

On behalf of Bud and Linda Maskill, Bud thanked the Council members for our prayer and well wishes for helping them get through the death of their daughter, Marilyn Maskill, who died on Feb. 2, 2022.

Greg Miller reported that we had collected 21,666 pounds of food and $10,496.00 for Catholic Charities food drive during the period January – December 2021. Greg will initiate the paperwork to inform Supreme of the amounts collected. We should receive a check for $500.00 from Supreme for our good works.

The next Catholic Charities food drive is the weekend of May 7 & 8. Volunteers are needed to man the food truck and to collect money.

The current nominees for Elected Officer positions for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 were announced at the meeting. They are as follows: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday; Deputy Grand Knight, Don Watson; Chancellor, Tony Schroeder; Recorder, Everett Fritz; Treasure, Tom Spencer; Advocate, Rod Hoffman; Warden, Mike Bergkamp; Inside Guard, David Schatte; Outside Guard, Bill Ramsey; Trustee 1st Year, Rick Trudell; Trustee 2nd Year, Trinidad Molina; and Trustee 3rd Year, Greg Davis. The nominations will remain open until the time of election which will take place during the next Council meeting on May 12. Anyone else wishing to be nominated for an Officers position is asked to contact Jim Easterday, Trinidad Molina or Rick Trudell.

 

   

New Business

  With “Unfinished Business” concluded the Grand Knight asked whether there was any new business to take up. There was no New Business this evening.

 

 

   

 

Fourth Degree Report

 

Dan Hageman, the Faithful Navigator was absent, however, the following information was provided: The next Assembly meeting will be on May 16. The next 4th Degree Exemplification Ceremony will be on June 11 in Wichita.

 

KNIGHT AND FAMILY OF THE MONTH

 

The Grand Knight reported the Knight and Family of the Month were as follows:

District Deputy Comments

 

The District Deputy, Richard Warwick, was absent but it was reported that the State Convention will be held in Topeka from Friday to Monday, April 29 to May 2. Tom Gaume will be our Council representative.

 

 

Insurance Agent Report

  

Our Field Agent, John Rodriguez was not present; there was no report

 

 

For the Good of the Order

 

Prayers Requested

 

There were no requests for prayers outside of those already on the Knight’s Prayer List.

 

 

Adoration

 

Jerry Gerstberger was present. He said between 8 and 10 people attended the Wednesday night adoration hour. There is always room for more.

 

 

50 / 50 DRAWING

 

There was a 50/50 drawing at the meeting. Trinidad Molina won the 50/50 drawing of $18

 

 

ACCUMULATION DRAWING

 

The Attendance Prize Accumulation amount this evening is $63. Paul Sheehan’s name was drawn. He would have won the $63. had he been present.

 

After a prayer, the meeting closed at 8:00 P.M.

 

The next Council meeting is May 12, 2022 in the Martha and Mary Room.. The next Officers’ meeting is April 28, 2022.
